A layover at Larnaca International Airport (LCA) is unusually easy to use, because the airport sits right next to the city. This guide is staged by how much time you have between flights, with a realistic plan for each.

A layover at Larnaca International Airport (LCA) is unusually easy to use, because the airport sits right next to the city. This guide is staged by how much time you have between flights, with a realistic plan for each.

| Time between flights | What's realistic |
|---|---|
| Under 3 hours | Stay airside — relax, eat, shop and recheck your gate |
| 3–6 hours | A taxi to Finikoudes beach for a swim and a meal, and back |
| 6–10 hours | Finikoudes + the old town (St Lazarus), or add the salt lake |
| 10 hours+ / overnight | A full day in Larnaca or a nearby resort — or book a room |
With less than three hours, it is not worth leaving. Passport control out and back in, plus security again, eats the margin. Relax airside instead: grab a coffee or a meal (see our food guide), browse duty-free, use the free Wi-Fi, and — if you want real comfort — a lounge. Keep an eye on the flight board and your gate.
This is the sweet spot for a quick escape. Take a taxi (about 10 minutes) to the Finikoudes seafront — a palm-lined promenade with a sandy beach, tavernas and the old fort. Have a swim, a plate of meze and a Cyprus coffee, then head back. Store your bags first (see luggage storage) so you travel light. Book a return taxi or a transfer so you are not waiting for one.
With six hours or more you can add the old town — the Church of St Lazarus and the lanes around it — to your Finikoudes visit, or head to the Larnaca Salt Lake and the Hala Sultan Tekke mosque, both minutes from the airport (with flamingos in winter — see the best time to visit Cyprus). A pre-booked car or transfer that waits for you makes a two-stop plan comfortable. Leave a clear buffer to return.
A long layover opens up a full day. Spend it on the beach and in the old town, take a transfer to Ayia Napa or explore further, or — on an overnight — book a room. Larnaca has plenty of seafront hotels only 10 minutes away, so you can sleep properly and reach check-in easily. For any trip out of town, a private transfer that waits for you is the least stressful option.
